We have set up a charity within brainstrust called Lloyd`s Legacy to fund counselling for people affected by brain tumours. Lloyd was just a month away from graduating a four year degree in counselling when he was diagnosed with an astrocytoma and could no longer see clients due to the resulting epilepsy. He found it hard to get counselling for himself through his illness and we thought it only fitting, and it seems less of a waste of his years of studying, to do something to help change that.
Brain cancers/tumours are the least understood cancer, no new treatment has been discovered in 40 years, yet more children die of brain cancer than any other illness in the UK. It is the most common form of cancer in the under 45`s yet only gets 1% of research funds. Brain tumours/brain cancer has the greatest impact on the individual in terms of emotional, physical and financial than any other cancer. Unlike other cancers it effects the persons personality and can `take away the essence` of a loved one it can cause difficult to deal with behaviours for carers and overwhelming symptoms for the sufferer, such as seizures and tremors, vision loss and paralysis. That is why we are committed to raising funds to help people who are living with this awful disease. Brainstrust
There are over 60,000 people living with a brain tumour in the UK. Being told `you have a brain tumour` is terrifying, isolating and confusing. We know. Brainstrust is the charity and the community that`s here to help. As well as being there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for people living with a brain tumour and their carers, Brainstrust works with hospitals to secure the best possible care. And, because we truly understand, we`re able to campaign for the brain tumour community to help solve real issues. brainstrust is a registered charity in England and Wales - 1114634 and in Scotland - SC044642
Brain Tumours for Dummys
About the Author
What is there to tell about Daniel Lewis? By his own admission he`s Mr Average. Average height, average weight, average grades, average at sports, average looking, averagely popular. What`s different about him? Nothing. He grew up in an average house in Southampton, England. He wasn`t spoilt but he wasn`t mistreated either. He`s never been struck by lightning, he didn`t win the lottery, he`s never been in trouble with the law. Except for that one time when... never mind. Anyway, there`s nothing much to tell. That is until his late 20`s when an epileptic seizure struck out of the blue and led to a shock diagnosis. He kept a regular blog of his experiences from early on in his treatment which drew attention from an increasing audience, and after further life-changing surprises over the next few years, followers began suggesting he should think about writing a book. Brain Tumours for Dummy`s is his far-from-average, deeply personal account of how he overcame brain cancer to become a father to triplets. Dan`s book is available as a digital download or paperback on Amazon and has been featured in The Daily Echo and on BBC Radio. Having caught the writing bug he is currently working on some new projects, but when he`s not jotting down ideas he and his partner, Sarah, enjoy spending every spare moment with their precious children, Jarvis, Joel and Leila.
